Topic: How can democratic participation be increased in the EU consultation processes?

The challenge is about increasing democratic participation. Participants can choose to create or improve tools that increase:

  1. participation: allow citizens to participate in public consultations or in policy-making debates held at EU (and possibly national) level;
  2. transparency: enable the mining and analysis of responses and positions published in the framework of a public consultation process or legislative debate; or,
  3. participation & transparency: combine both aspects.

The theme of the 4th edition of the EUhackathon is ‘Increasing EU Democratic Participation’: how to get EU citizens more involved into the EU policy-making process, hence democratizing the process, and how to better analyse the contributions to such processes, hence increasing transparency. The event takes place on 2 and 3 December 2014.

The objective of the initiative is not necessarily to end up with fully completed projects, but rather to raise awareness and encourage debate around this issue. Selected applicants will have their travel and accommodation costs covered and the winning project will be awarded €5.000, courtesy of our sponsor.
